There is a long list of things that can go wrong with your veins, but the team at our state-of-the-art vein center in Michigan can help you. If you have spider veins and/or varicose veins, you may also experience leg cramps, swelling and heaviness, restless leg syndrome and venous insufficiency. With the latest advancements in medical technology, many vein treatments are non-surgical. We typically begin with the most conservative treatment for early diagnosis and offer a wide range of treatments.
Some of the treatments we offer include:
- Radiofrequency ablation – Ablation means heat. The radiofrequency energy is introduced into the affected vein. The heat destroys the vein. When the blood coagulates, the vein collapses and is gradually absorbed by the surrounding tissue and disappears in the weeks following the treatment. This is a fairly popular procedure and is performed in the comfort of our office in Michigan.
- Sclerotherapy – These treatments also destroy the varicose or spider vein, but with solutions, not heat. The results are similar as the vein collapses and gradually disappears. The solution is injected directly into the varicose or spider vein through specialized processes. The solution irritates the vein wall, causing it to collapse. For veins that are deep inside the leg, ultrasound may be used to guide the placement of the solution.
- Microphlebectomy – Also called an ambulatory microphlebectomy, this is also performed at our vein center in Michigan. It is typically used to remove bulging varicose veins that are just below the surface of the skin. The vein is removed through tiny openings in the skin.
- Compression therapy – This is considered a conservative treatment for veins. Along with wearing compression stockings, the person may make changes in their lifestyle such as losing weight or getting more exercise.
You may be at higher risk for developing varicose veins if you sit or stand for long hours every day. The best remedy if you sit is to get up and walk around at least once every hour. If you stand, try to sit with your feet raised for 10 minutes several times a day.
